Nó de Pinho (translated as "Pine Knot" or "Araucaria-Pinetree-Knots") is a ultra-dense, resinous, and hard heartwood knot left behind when the Brazilian Araucaria angustifolia (Paraná Pine) falls and decays. It is considered one of the hardest woods in Brazil.
Key Characteristics:
- Extremely Dense & Durable: Because of its high concentration of resin and natural density, it is highly durable, resisting rot and decay for decades.
- Appearance: Reddish-brown with rich resin streaks.
- Origin: Found in the forests of Southern Brazil (Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul)
