Wood details: Ipe (pronounced ee-pay) is an exceptionally dense, durable Brazilian hardwood. Also known as Brazilian Walnut, it is highly prized for outdoor decking, siding, and marine structures due to its natural resistance to rot, insects, fire, and heavy wear. With a lifespan of 40 to 75 years, it is the gold standard for long-lasting exterior wood.

Key Characteristics

Extreme Hardness: Ipe has a Janka hardness rating of around 3,600 lbs, making it incredibly resistant to scratching and denting. It is so dense that it actually sinks in water.
Natural Durability: It is naturally rich in oils that make it highly resistant to moisture, mold, fungi, and termites without the need for chemical treatments.
Fire Resistance: Ipe boasts a Class A fire rating—meaning it has a flame-spread rating similar to steel and concrete—making it a popular choice for wildfire-prone areas.
